Today, Pope Francis appoved decrees from the Dicastery for the Causes of the Saints recognizing the martyrdom of Servants of God Pedro de Corpa and his four companions, who were Orders of Friars Minor that were killed for the faith in the present-day state of Georgia. The Georgia martyrs can now be referred to as Venerables, and presumably, as is customary of martyrs, will soon have a date set for their beatification. Consistent with current tradition, this should mean the first beatification on United States soil since Blessed Michael McGivney! You can learn more about these now venerables and soon to be blesseds -- Pedro de Corpa, Blas de Rodriguez, Francisco de Verascola, Antonio de Badajoz, and Miguel de Anon -- on their pages here at American Saints and Causes.
